No. 26 women face Detroit at Breslin

EAST LANSING - The MSU women's basketball team will shoot for its third straight win of the season at 7 p.m. today against the University of Detroit.

The Spartans, who defeated Stony Brook 73-42 on Sunday, are ranked 26th in this week's Associated Press poll. They are led in scoring by junior Lauren Aitch (Waverly) and freshman Courtney Schiffhauer (Boardman, Ohio), who are averaging 17 and 15 points per game, respectively.

This weekend the Spartans will take part in the four-team TD Banknorth Classic in Burlington, Vt. They'll play Dartmouth at 3 p.m. Saturday and either Vermont or Quinnipiac at either 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. Sunday.

Water polo club wins national title

ATHENS, Ohio - Former Okemos Chieftain Jake Marsh had two goals for the Michigan State Club water polo team in a 15-13 win over Cal Poly State for the 2008 National Collegiate Club Championship.

Senior Jon Haga had five goals for the Spartans and senior Evan Perry added three.

This is the Spartans fourth title and they set a record by reaching the title game for a fourth straight year.

Ben Shantz had five saves for the Spartans.

DOWNTOWN COACHES CLUB: MSU football coach Mark Dantonio will talk about this week's game against Penn State during the weekly luncheon at Eagle Eye Golf Club on Thursday. MSU senior players will be honored guests at the luncheon, and members of the Spartan pep band will perform. Doors open at 10:30 a.m., and the program starts at 11:45 a.m. Admission for members is $14, nonmembers is $17.
